Gwyneth Iona Farrell (nee Collins) passed away on May 11, 2023 in her 90th year at Huron Shores Hospice, Tiverton. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family.

Gwyneth is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert E Farrell. They were married at Chalmers Church on July 28, 1956. She is also survived by her three children: Ina and her husband Gary McLeod, Leanne, and Geoffrey and his wife Sandra.

Gwyneth cherished her grandchildren Kristen McLeod, Jason McLeod and his partner Kathryn, Deanna Caddey and her husband Shawn, Kimberley Lawlor and her husband Anthony, Alyson Dawson and her husband Daniel, Thomas Farrell and his wife Becca, Jonathon Farrell and his wife Siobhan, Jacob Farrell and his partner Lindsay, and Patrick Farrell. She was also a loving great grandmother to Autumn and Genevieve Caddey, Edison, Arthur and Angus Dawson, Adeline and Bridget Lawlor, Everett, Arlo and Charlotte Farrell and Matilda Farrell.

Gwyneth is fondly remembered by in-laws Mary (Mervyn) Collins, Brenda (Bevan) Collins, Lynn (Marj) Farrell and Jim and Jane Farrell as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gwyneth was born on January 15, 1934 at Kincardine Hospital, to Harold and Ina Collins (nee Needham). She is predeceased by her parents, as well as by brothers Mervyn, Burton and Bevan and in-laws Margie Collins, William and Doreen Farrell, Murray and Lois McGill, Marj Farrell and Barbara Farrell.

Gwyneth trained as a teacher at Stratford Normal School in 1952-53. She taught for four years at local one-room schools in Teeswater and Millarton. However, once she married her high school sweetheart Robert and her children began to arrive, Gwyneth became a very dedicated mother and farm wife. As a mother, she was always gentle and kind, giving her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren much love and care. She was well known for her wonderful meals, beautiful gardens and well run household. She enjoyed many craft activities, including knitting, crocheting and paper tole. The family always enjoyed listening to Nana play the piano, as she shared seasonal songs and hymns. She was an active member of the community, and led many 4-H homemaking clubs. She was also a member of the Ripley Horticultural Society.

Gwyneth had a very beautiful smile, which was readily shared with all. Her kindness and gentle, loving presence will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A service to honour Gwyneth’s life will be held at Davey Linklater Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12-1 pm, with the service at 1:30 pm. Following burial at Kincardine Cemetery, a gathering for friends and family is planned at the family farm (home of Geoff and Sandra Farrell), 1351 Highway 21 S, Kincardine.

If desired, donations to the Huron Shores Hospice or Anglican Church of Messiah would be appreciated.

Thank you to Tiverton Park Manor, Huron Shores Hospice, and Kincardine Hospital staff and physicians for the care and support provided.
