Obituary for Robert Ward

Robert “Bob” Edwin Ward a resident of R-Villa in Ripley and formerly of Kincardine, passed away on Monday, October 30th, 2023, at the Huron Shores Hospice, Tiverton, at the age of 85.

Robert was born on November 25th, 1937, in Toronto.

Survived by his loving wife Norma Ward (née Barger) of 64 years. Also survived by his daughters, Laura Bradshaw (Doug) Calgary AB, Deborah Leyden (Andy) Kincardine, and son Neil Ward (Kelly) PEI.

Predeceased by his parents Philip and Hilda (née Gray) Ward, his daughter Catherine Ward, brother Ken Ward, sister Marilyn Cribar, and brother-in-law Donald Barger.

Robert will be sorely missed by his grandchildren, Jennifer Bradshaw, Alex Bradshaw (Kristen), Jason Ward (Jessica), Daniel Ward (Katie), Matt Leyden (Erica), Sarah Leyden (Ben), and his great grandchildren, Erika, Belle, Athena, Rowan, Abby and Malik.

Fondly remembered by sisters-in-law Mary Lou Ward and Margret Barger, along with many nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.

Robert was known as the “the quiet man” to his family and friends. Bob had many passions in his full life, such as his love for flying. He earned his pilot license before his drivers license at 15 years of age. Bob was in the Air Cadets and the Royal Canadian Air Force, Regular Force.

Other passions of Robert Ward included painting, Canadian history, and his extensive collection of lead toy soldiers. Robert enjoyed the outdoors, especially that of Western Canada and the North West Territories. Robert’s greatest passion of all, however, was the love he shared with his family. Robert was a family man, through and through.

He was an electrician at Labatt’s Brewery for 28 years, and enjoyed 20+ years of retirement in Kincardine, and later, R-Villa in Ripley.

Robert’s family is very grateful for the Kincardine Doctors Roth, Murray, and Gunaratne. They would also like to acknowledge the wonderful caring staff at R-Villa in Ripley, along the compassionate care Robert received at Huron Shores Hospice, in the final chapter of his life.

Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 2:00 p.m., with Ann Maycock officiating.

Reception will follow the service in the Davey-Linklater Lounge.
