Obituary

Glen Emerson Holmes, of Kincardine, passed away suddenly, at the South Bruce Grey Hospital-Kincardine, on Sunday, May 3rd, 2020, in his 84th year.

Cherished husband of Elaine (née Rooke) Holmes.

Loving father of Mark (Heather Kenny) Holmes and Pamela (George) Plagos.

Dear grandfather of Nick (Rachel), Andrea (Lucas), Quinn and Aidan and great-grandfather of Nolan.

Remembered by his brothers-in-law Mervyn Rooke and Aldon (Faye) Rooke, and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Charles and Verna (née Hartford) Holmes, brother Arthur Holmes, sisters-in-law Audrey Holmes and Helen Rooke. Also predeceased by parents-in-law, Harry and Freda Rooke.

Glen joined Ontario Hydro at Douglas Point in 1965 and through to his retirement in 1993 contributed to the radiation protection practices at the Bruce Nuclear site.

Glen will be missed as a pillar of his community and his church, sharing his many talents, time, and passion for nature with his many friends and acquaintances for over 50 years. An avid naturalist, Glen loved the outdoors and was a highly regarded bird watcher and photographer. Like many in town, he was also an expert in capturing the famous Lake Huron sunsets. Glen’s award winning photography is well known to many in Kincardine and surrounding areas. Hundreds of local events -- from Queen Street parades, to music festivals, to daily life -- achieved immortality through the lens of his camera and video recordings.

Glen was also active in music and performance, singing in church and local choirs and regularly attending symphony concerts. He and his wife Elaine travelled much of the world and enjoyed experiencing each country’s unique scenery and culture.

Memorial donations to the Kincardine United Church or Kincardine Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

A graveside service will be held at the Kincardine Cemetery on Saturday, September 19th, 2020 at 3:00 p.m..

Sorry and saddened to read of the passing of Glen. What a kind man. He did contribute to the radiation protection practices at the Bruce Nuclear site. Was a real leader - and helped me too. Much appreciated. Kevin

Dear Elaine, Pam, Mark and family,

We are so sorry to hear of Glen's sudden passing. He was such a sweet, warm and positive fellow. You were so lucky to have him in your lives for as long as you did. I was thinking of him fondly yesterday as I was taking pictures of a mother robin feeding her three chicks under the roof of our gazebo. He was always so patient and took such gorgeous pictures. His loss will leave such a deep void in your lives, but hopefully you will be able to fill it with wonderful memories of the times you shared. We send you our love and prayers and many virtual hugs.

dear Elaine

So sorry to learn of your recent loss of your dear husband, Glen. I was just going on line looking through and saw that your hubby had passed to be home with his Lord and Saviour. We have such wonderful memories of our getting together with Joyce Neyvatte for pot lucks and sing-alongs and you folks and so many others. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time of loss. He truly was a gentle person and brought much joy to everyone who knew him.
Our most sincere Sympathy goes out to you and your family at this time
