Obituary

Karen Frances Nancekivell (née Baigent) peacefully passed away at her home on Sunday, August 23rd, 2020, in the afternoon, at 4:00 p.m. surrounded by her immediate family.

Karen will be deeply missed by her husband and closest companion for over 56 years, Jack, and her family: Daughter Susan Perrier and husband Randy along with their children Rhiannon and Conor and son Greg Nancekivell and his wife Nancy along with their children Tomas and Sophie.

Karen will also be missed by her nieces Jennifer, Janis and Jodi and their families.

Karen was born at Woodstock General Hospital on December 12th, 1942 to her parents Bill and Gladys (née Fairservice) Baigent. She is also predeceased by her brother, Barry Baigent.
She was raised on a farm near Thamesford, Ontario, attended Dickson Corners Public School and later Ingersoll District Collegiate.

Karen graduated from the Victoria School of Nursing in London Ontario as a Registered Nurse in 1963. She worked in the Obstetrics Department at Victoria Hospital until her marriage to Jack on April 11th, 1964.

After their marriage, Karen and Jack lived in Oakville where Karen worked part time at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital. After the birth of their children, Karen worked for a period of time providing private home nursing.

The family moved to Kincardine in June 1977, where Karen was the primary home maker and started volunteering in the community for charity organizations as well as working in the family operated business, Mahood Lumber Company.

Two of the most important organizations in her life were the Kincardine Hospital Auxiliary and the Kincardine United Church.

Karen was an active member of the Kincardine United Church choir for over 40 years and dearly loved everyone in the group. She also served for many years as the catering coordinator until her health denied her that enjoyment.

Participation in the Hospital Auxiliary always brought her joy, particularly her fellowship with the Auxiliary members as well as the fun times that she treasured working in the Gift Shop.

The highlight of her Hospital Auxiliary experience was receiving a Provincial Life Membership in the Ontario Hospital Auxiliary Association at Toronto in 2017.

Karen’s life was one of selfless giving to her family, her friends and her community.

An open casket processional (visitation) will be held on Thursday, August 27th, 2020 starting at 2:00 p.m. at the Kincardine United Church.

Due to provincial restrictions, please register to attend the visitation by calling the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home at 519-396-2701 or using the link below.

So saddened to hear of Karen's passing, Jack! My thoughts and prayers will be with you in the weeks and months to come. She was a faithful church member and choir member and was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. It was interesting to read her obituary. Many things I did not know about her. Take care and take comfort in God's presence.
